The Foundation in a Nutshell
Digital restoration is a major cinematographic trend in recent years. In the Czech Republic, its history dates back to 2011, with the restoration of Vláčil’s Marketa Lazarová on the initiative of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. The world premiere of the film took place at the 46th Karlovy Vary IFF and met with great acclaim. This sparked an idea in the minds of the future founders to create a foundation that would support the restoration of outstanding Czech and Czechoslovak films. A year later, the idea became a reality. The Czech Film Foundation was established with a mission to collect funds for the restoration of Czech cinematographic treasures and preserve them for future generations of film fans.
